PART 1
The Coevolution of L. reuteri DSM 17938 Alongside Humans

Tuesday 9th April 2024 at 6:00 pm AEST

Many probiotic formulations include various Limosilactobacillus species, some of which are commonly present in the human intestine. Limosilactobacillus reuteri holds particular significance as a probiotic bacterium due to its coevolution with various animal hosts, including humans, and its secretion of anti-microbial compounds that inhibit other bacteria.

During this webinar, Lotta will take you on a journey through the history of L. reuteri DSM 17938 and discuss:

  • The symbiotic relationship between L. reuteri DSM 17938 and humans
  • How this relationship may be harnessed to promote health
  • How L. reuteri DSM 17938 has diversified over time as a result of host-driven evolution

PART 2
Emerging Research in the field of probiotics
Tuesday 18th June 2024 at 6:00pm AEST

Over the last two decades, there has been a significant transformation in our comprehension of the microbiome's role in human host physiology. Ground-breaking studies have revealed that prokaryotic residents, in comparison to human cells and genes, make an equivalent contribution in terms of cell numbers and a considerably higher contribution in terms of genes to the human "holobiont." This microbial influence extends across various mammalian processes, encompassing digestion, metabolism, immunity, and even brain functions.[i]

This research continues to evolve rapidly, and in this webinar, Sara & Jakob will discuss the exciting results emerging from an ongoing study looking at the impact of L. reuteri probiotic strains on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). They’ll share:

  • What pathophysiological mechanisms underlie IBD & IBS
  • Which probiotic strains have demonstrated ability to alleviate drivers and symptoms of IBD & IBS
  • How to incorporate probiotics in clinical protocols to alleviate common gastrointestinal conditions

Speaker: Jakob Axelsson & Sara Appelgren
